Are you suggesting that you will host the event this year?

I will be camping, and I think that probably Jester and Mrs Jester are too (having spoken to him the other day)
So as much as I would say yes I will host, where I camp (Kidney Mead) isn't good really.
Also, at present, I might not be going, although I am seriously hopeful for a job, if I don't get one by cut off date, then I will have to cancel due to lack of funds to pay for the ticket (cos I haven't paid my friend yet) or spending money (for serious drinkage and minor amounts of food)

Certainly would like to do something, also, thinking would people want to do it on Wednesday?
Thinking that the VC & VF meets will be on Thursday

if you want to make it on Wed, I propose to do something different than the BBQ at 3-4 pm. Cause maybe not all of us will have already arrived + camped (although I may be wrong of course). Maybe we can meet at the bandstand, or jazz lounge and just chill out together for some part of the evening. I agree that Thu seems already busy :angel2 (18):

Myself I am not too sure about my arrival time, I am not even sure how I will arrive (the fact that I don't know where I will find work adds to the uncertainty).

Anyway, what's VF? :angel2 (8):
I know VC (voodycloody) but the only VF I know is Vodafone (which I presume is not the right answer in this case :scratch_one-s_head: )

Would love to do something, happy to host at chez Nolly for drinks but as for a full scale BBQ that would prove difficult (catering wise) Thinking of camping in the pyramid field again as close to the stage as poss...............................

Doubt I will be able to get there for Wednesday, Thursday is as good as it gets for me. Although I might, depending on the weather, go to site on my bike on Wednesday morning, and set a tent up at the top of Pyramid by the power lines, then retreat until Thursday, or maybe even Friday.

I'd be happy to provide a location for the BBQ at my van, but I'm usually miles out, right at the back of the furthest field, and not easy to locate either. Although, another cunning plan would involve bringing the van Wed morning, and coming home on the back of my friend's bike. Then how to get to site though on Thursday?

We shall see how this all pans out.

power lines? do you miss civilisation so much that you want to camp underneath the power lines? :scratch_one-s_head:

but it is a bit of a drag that by Wed noon 75% of the camping fields are full. I am also thinking about it... the one time I arrived late on Thu it was impssible to find ANY spot for my tent (apart from what appears to be the less popular field, above the cinema, next to entrance A)

Someone's got to camp under the power lines, and as my tent is only a retreat for a little relaxation, not my bed for the night (that being in my van) I don't mind being under them. They are noisy in damp weather though.

For the last couple of years, my arrival before Thursday lunchtime has seen me further and further back in the furthest campervan field, I don't know where you end up when that is full, but I might find out this year. I'd be quite happy in the "hill of death" field, up the top on one of the flatter bits.

btw, anyone coming from Bristol? I might fly to Bristol either on Tue evening of Wed morning. Anyone driving close by? at this moment it's only one of the possible scenarios; it's just a thought

Well, my friend who paid for my ticket when I had to cancel my card and then I've not been able to pay back due to being out of work has said that I can pay her when I've got the cash

very nice friend
I rang and spoke to her and said, look, I'm still out of work, it's not fair that I haven't paid you anything
I don't know when I will find work and it's probably best to cancel my ticket
She said that not to be silly, she knows how hard it is atm, she isn't in need of the cash and would prefer it near the end of the year cos she wants to travel
I'm like....flipping heck

I just bought my airplane tickets, I fly to Bristol. Tickets were (relatively) cheap and it's better than to fly to Stansted like last time (Lis would second that  ). But there is one slight problem. My plane arrives on Tuesday evening so now I have to find out what to do until the gates open.

  • Anyone has an idea on how to go from the airport to the site on Tue evening? First National Express bus leaves the airport at 10:55 am so it seems a long wait :(
  • If I manage to arrive at the site on Tue evening, I suppose there is no way to enter the site before Wed 8 am?
  • Do you think I could just put up my tent anywhere for a few hours until the gates open?

other brighter ideas?

You can't enter the site before 08:00. BF and I have tried that but luckily we had a car we could at least keep warm and dry in. Can you not find a cheap B&B or hotel room for the Tuesday night? More expense I know but an alternative would mean a lot of lugging round with your stuff. (Or just sleep on a bench at the airport) Some hotels are linked to HERE

You haven't said what time your flight lands at Bristol, evening I would asume 5pm ish. Other than a hotel I can't think of anything else sorry.

thanks Pam. At least I know that there is no way to enter the site earlier.
My flight arrives around 10:30 pm, so by the time I get my luggage and leave the aiport it will be late. Plus I want to enter the site early which means getting up early. So I am thinking the bed part of the B&B will be under-used

I'll give a small update to this
Looks like the board meet could last all weekend at this rate
I am collecting Eki and his friend from the airport, who has suggested camping together
I am taping off an area (I KNOW!!!) so that Jester, Mrs Jester and their friend can get a spot with us
Something was mentioned on the phone about Pam when I was talking to Jester, so I assume I'll be saving space for them too

As always I'm looking to camp in Kidney Mead
I will be leaving London at 4.30am on the Wednesday. (a whole hour earlier than last year when I got to half a mile away from site at 8.15 and didn't park until 9.30)
So I reckon I'll get a very decent spot or I'll be stuck in traffic for ages

If you haven't seen the map of where I usually camp, visit the following link

I thought Pam snobs public camping since she was "upgraded" to crew camping last year.

Well we are hoping for Row Mead, I am happy to host a shindig by my tent but cant do a BBQ (as a: can't be arsed to lug all the stuff needed as I'm a lazy troll, but I'm more than happy to be the host with the most and pass out at some stage)

Bet we're there before you :P
Another update. Just to fill in bits for all.... Jester May be dropping off his tents at Daves (my BF in case no-one remembers his name) so no need for the taping off of areas Sparky, just some helpful hands in putting up their tents will do. Dave and I will be leaving at silly o'clock to make sure we're there before gates opening.

Someone has to remind you all that you're unworthy! Can't be letting the uncouth and uncivilised roam without someone keeping an eye on you all.

Oooohhh but I am getting so excited now. Will be a good camp.

Bet we're there before you :P
Another update. Just to fill in bits for all.... Jester May be dropping off his tents at Daves (my BF in case no-one remembers his name) so no need for the taping off of areas Sparky, just some helpful hands in putting up their tents will do. Dave and I will be leaving at silly o'clock to make sure we're there before gates opening.

have exchanged a few PMs with sparky. We will definitely be there early-ish as well and we will set up all tents (including jester's). So we will probably be finished by Wed 8 pm  . It will be easier if we have the tents anyway. Otherwise saving space will be difficult.

I am also excited now :)

PM's??

They're called conversations now, I understand why they are called this, but for most people it won't matter that the functionality of what PM's where has been greatly enhanced, I'll let you work out what the major enhancement is

I know Kidney Mead can get very crowded quickly, I learnt this year when the queue to get in was so long, (flipping 1.5 hours to get from 2 mins from the main road turn off to parking)
So long as we spread things out, use the firewood trick I was talking to you about Eki and my red/white hazard tape, we'll be fine I think.

I should also mention that anyone wanting to camp with us (Shugie, Halfamix, Weneedcalm, Jolly, anyone else that I can't think of off the top of my head that is going) you are not excluded from these plans, we would very much like you to camp with us and I apologise if this has not come across in any of the posts

Well most likely yes, but one or two other possibilities. If the weather forecast is clearly for hot and dry, then I might bring the tipi, I've asked the festival office about this, and the tipi field organiser is meant to get back to me. I guess that tipis have to be set up before the festival opens, as you can't have members of the public driving vehicles about the place when the rest of the public are present. Will see what said organiser says when they get organised about responding to me. But if this does go ahead, I will be able to offer space not just for a BBQ, but also in the tipi, as it will look somewhat silly having a large tipi for the one bod.

Or, I might bring a tent with me as a 'day' tent, especially if the forecast is not so good, this might appear by means of a motorbike early on Wednesday, with the van following on Thursday, early afternoon. In which case I will try to join you in Kidney Mead.
